01 / Services

What I can build for you

Backend is the specialisation. I can take a system from architecture through to a deployed, monitored, secured production environment, or step into one that already exists.

Backend engineering

I build the APIs, databases and server-side logic behind web and mobile products: authentication, business rules, background jobs, caching and third-party integrations. I design them so whoever inherits them can maintain them.

  • APIs
  • Databases
  • Microservices
  • Integrations

DevOps & cloud infrastructure

I containerise, deploy and automate your application so releases stop depending on someone running manual steps. That covers pipelines, infrastructure as code, monitoring and a look at what your cloud bill is actually paying for.

  • Docker
  • CI/CD
  • Azure
  • Infrastructure as code

Secure backend architecture

I have spent years building systems in regulated finance, where a failed transaction is a compliance problem. Authentication, authorisation, API security and access control go in while the system is being built, so nobody has to retrofit them after an audit.

  • Auth
  • API security
  • Access control
  • Regulated domains

AI integration & automation

I integrate AI into products using LLM APIs, RAG and backend workflows, and automate the business processes around them. That usually means connecting the systems you already run so the work stops being done by hand.

  • LLM APIs
  • RAG
  • Automation
  • System integrations

02 / Process

How we would work together

Predictable structure, and you know the scope before anyone writes code.

  1. 01

    Discovery call

30 minutes on what you are building, what is breaking, and whether I am the right fit.

  2. 02

    Scope & architecture

A short paid review ending in a written plan: architecture, scope, timeline and budget.

  3. 03

    Build & deploy

Delivery in agreed increments, each one deployed to a real environment instead of sitting on a branch.

  4. 04

    Handover & support

Documentation and a walkthrough so your team can run it without depending on me.

03 / Background

Engineering background

Seven years building and running production systems for financial, energy and telecom operators. That work is what backs the services above.

Now

  1. 2022

    Senior Software Engineer

    Consumer lending & financial services

    Netherlands · Remote

Responsible for a suite of .NET 8 microservices connected through a message bus and API gateway, serving customer-facing loan portals and secure third-party banking transactions. Work spans new feature delivery, integration reliability and reducing cloud spend by right-sizing underused resources, inside an international Scrum team.

  2. 2021

    .NET Developer

IT consultancy · financial services engagement

    Lisbon, Portugal

Consultancy engagement on the same lending platform. Built event-driven microservices over serverless functions, a document database and SQL, released through automated pipelines, and led the framework upgrade of the entire project suite.

  3. .NET Developer

    Telecommunications · financial systems

    São Paulo, Brazil

Financial microservices for a mobile operator serving tens of millions of subscribers. Containerised C# APIs over a relational database, developed test-first with automated coverage.

  4. Junior Technical Consultant

    Enterprise ITSM consultancy

    São Paulo, Brazil

Workflow and service-catalogue automation for a multinational mining group, including custom scripted components. It was my first hands-on work in business process automation.

  5. 2020

    Junior IT Analyst

    Energy utility

    Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Owned the metering and field systems for a major metropolitan grid, covering requirements, incident response and coordination with engineering teams abroad.

  6. 2019

    Trainee → Developer

    IT services provider

    Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

API development on containerised services over a relational database, plus behaviour-driven test automation for a water and sanitation utility.

Systems I have delivered

Production systems delivered as an employee or consultant, described the way I would scope equivalent work for you.

Professional engagement · Financial services

Loan contracts platform

Problem

A regulated lender needed loan contracts and third-party banking transactions handled reliably across many services, without manual release steps.

Solution

Event-driven .NET microservices communicating over a message bus behind an API gateway, with infrastructure defined as code and releases automated through CI/CD pipelines.

Outcome

Serves customer-facing portals for thousands of loan customers. I led the upgrade of the full project suite to a current framework version and right-sized underused cloud resources.

  • .NET 8
  • Service Bus
  • Cosmos DB
  • Bicep
  • CI/CD

Professional engagement · Telecommunications

Telecom financial microservices

Problem

A mobile operator serving tens of millions of subscribers needed financial operations exposed as maintainable, independently deployable services.

Solution

C# APIs on .NET Core backed by PostgreSQL, containerised with Docker and built test-first using TDD and BDD.

Outcome

Financial operations delivered as containerised services with automated test coverage, deployable through a repeatable pipeline.

  • .NET Core
  • Docker
  • PostgreSQL
  • TDD/BDD

Professional engagement · Utilities

Metering & field systems

Problem

An energy distributor needed its metering and field systems for a major metropolitan grid kept accurate and incidents resolved across distributed teams.

Solution

Ownership of the C# metering systems end to end, covering requirements gathering, incident follow-up and coordination with engineering teams abroad.

Outcome

Metering and field systems for the metropolitan grid maintained under clear ownership, with incidents tracked to resolution.

07 / FAQ

What clients usually ask

  • Backend systems, APIs, databases, integrations, automation, cloud infrastructure and AI-backed services. In practice that means the part of your product users never see but entirely depend on: the data model, the business logic, the integrations with other systems, and the environment it all runs in.
