Backend is the specialisation. I can take a system from architecture through to a deployed, monitored, secured production environment, or step into one that already exists.
I build the APIs, databases and server-side logic behind web and mobile products: authentication, business rules, background jobs, caching and third-party integrations. I design them so whoever inherits them can maintain them.
I containerise, deploy and automate your application so releases stop depending on someone running manual steps. That covers pipelines, infrastructure as code, monitoring and a look at what your cloud bill is actually paying for.
I have spent years building systems in regulated finance, where a failed transaction is a compliance problem. Authentication, authorisation, API security and access control go in while the system is being built, so nobody has to retrofit them after an audit.
I integrate AI into products using LLM APIs, RAG and backend workflows, and automate the business processes around them. That usually means connecting the systems you already run so the work stops being done by hand.

Solution
Event-driven .NET microservices communicating over a message bus behind an API gateway, with infrastructure defined as code and releases automated through CI/CD pipelines.

Serves customer-facing portals for thousands of loan customers. I led the upgrade of the full project suite to a current framework version and right-sized underused cloud resources.

Backend systems, APIs, databases, integrations, automation, cloud infrastructure and AI-backed services. In practice that means the part of your product users never see but entirely depend on: the data model, the business logic, the integrations with other systems, and the environment it all runs in.
I deploy it. DevOps and cloud infrastructure are part of the specialisation: containerisation, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, environment configuration and monitoring. At the end you have a system running in production, not just a repository.
It is a core part of the work. Most of my experience is in regulated financial services, where authentication, authorisation, API security and access control are hard requirements. I build them in from the start so they never have to be bolted on after an audit.
Yes: LLM API integrations, retrieval-augmented generation over your own data, and backend workflows that automate processes currently done by hand. I treat AI as a backend capability that has to be reliable and cost controlled, the same as any other service.
That is where most of my value is. I am used to extending, upgrading, integrating and stabilising code that already carries real traffic and real money, and I have led a framework upgrade across an entire project suite. A rewrite is rarely my first suggestion.
Backend is my specialisation, and it is what you should hire me for. I can also build the web application and frontend around it when a project needs to be delivered end to end, but the backend is where the depth is.
Yes. A good part of my career has been spent delivering client projects from inside consultancies, so I know how that arrangement works. I can join your existing team as an extra senior backend developer or take a defined workstream end to end, under NDA, and the client relationship stays yours.
I work as a self-employed contractor based in Spain and invoice in EUR, with the VAT treatment that applies to your country. For clients elsewhere in the EU the reverse-charge mechanism normally applies. If you already have a preferred contracting vehicle, I can work through it.
A discovery call is free. After that, a short paid scoping review produces a written plan with architecture, scope, timeline and budget before any build work is committed to. Beyond that I prefer engagements of at least a month, and I also take ongoing part-time retainers alongside an existing team.
